Stem Cells

What are Stem Cells?

Stem cells are adult cells capable of developing or transforming into a specialized cell type, repairing the patients’ diseased and/or damaged tissues.
Sources of stem cells:
· Autologous: These stem cells come from the patient's own body, generally collected from the bone marrow.
· Allogeneic: They come from a donor, and can be harvested from the umbilical cord, placenta, and amniotic fluid.

Regenerative Stem Cells for Diabetes

From all metabolic diseases, diabetes is the most serious one and the most frequently diagnosed. As of today, roughly one in every ten people suffer from diabetes, becoming a major risk factor for morbidity, bringing about the premature death of millions of people across the globe. There are complications linked to this disease, both short and long term and we are happy we are able to offer a glimmer of hope to all those knocking at our door.
• Luxus Stem Cells has teamed up with the Doctor’s Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas, in order to offer the finest regenerative treatment to patients with diabetes.
• We help by treating chronic diabetic type 1 and type patients who are insulin-dependent, people with low c-peptide who need to increase their insulin intake for metabolic stabilization.

Why Bone Marrow Stem Cells?

Since the turn of the century, it has been commonly known by the medical community that bone marrow stem cells have the following capabilities: Anti-inflammatory, Immunomodulatory and Regenerative. Some medical studies have shown how stem cells have a regenerative capacity that is present in all tissues.
The way Stem Cells work is that once injected in the patients’ body, they differentiate with the sole purpose of achieving tissue regeneration, differentiation into specialized cells or specific cell function.

There are countless preclinical studies that show how bone marrow stem cells differentiate into insulin producing B Cells.

How we Perform our Treatment?

Firstly, we use a medication called Filgrastim that helps boost the creation of hematopoietic stem cells in the patient’s bone marrow. This is done for 4 days.

Next, on the 5th day we harvest the stem cells from the hip with a fine needle while the patient is in a sterile room and is under sedation. Those stem cells are immediately processed and then injected back into patient.
Procedure time
This procedure of extraction of the bone marrow stem cells and then implantation takes place in roughly sixty minutes. The patient is later on discharged from the clinic a few hours later.
The entire treatment will require for the patient to remain in Nassau for at least one week.  Finally, there are absolutely zero complications or negative side-effects the patients have had from our regenerative stem cell therapy.
What is The Treatment Outcome?
The overwhelming majority of our patients (around 80%) report the following improvements within the first four months after the stem cell therapy: better clinical & metabolic condition, no complications and pain, significant increase in the quality of life, large decrease in the daily dose of insulin.
On top of that, some patients even notice complete remissions and do not require any further medication, C peptides are normalized, secretion of A1c hemoglobin and insulin.

For our patients, this clinical evolution is prolonged and maintain for up to 5 years.
